  2.                   CONVERTING DATA FROM QUICKEN
  3.        Quicken is a registered trademark of the Intuit corporation.
  4.  
  5.            WinCheck can import data through the WinCheck Control
  6.            Language.  This language is discussed in section xx.
  7.            Quicken versions 3.0 and 4.0 can export data in the
  8.            Quicken Interchange Format (QIF).  QIF is a plain text
  9.            file that has standard tags, and this is the format
  10.            required for the Converter.  Please refer to your Quicken
  11.            Manual for the QIF description.
  12.  
  13.            The WinCheck Quicken Converter is a separate application
  14.            that will generate a WinCheck control file from the QIF
  15.            file.  Here is an example of how to convert your 1991 data
  16.            from Quicken to WinCheck:
  17.              1.  Run Quicken.  Load in your 1991 data.  Note your
  18.                  starting balances.
  19.              2.  From Quicken, choose "Export" from the menu.
  20.  
  21.              3.  For this example, let's call the export file
  22.                  EXP1991.EXP.
  23.              4.  Once you have exported this file, exit Quicken.
  24.              5.  Enter Windows, and double click on the WinCheck
  25.                  Converter icon.  Or, choose Run from the File menu
  26.                  and specify QUICK34.EXE.
  27.              6.  You will see an empty Window, with a convert menu.
  28.                  Choose From Quicken Version 3 or 4 from the Convert
  29.                  menu.

  31.              7.  A dialog box asking for the Quicken Exported filename
  32.                  will appear.  Use this dialog to find the file
  33.                  EXP1991.EXP.  Indicate in this dialog if the account
  34.                  to convert is a Checking account, a Savings account,
  35.                  or a Credit account.
  36.              8.  Once you have located this file, press the Convert
  37.                  button.
  38.              9.  An hourglass will appear.  The WinCheck Converter is
  39.                  busy converting yur data.
  40.                  After a while (5-60 seconds, depending on your data),
  41.                  the Converter will display a message stating that the
  42.                  conversion is complete.  The file Q34CONV.WCB has
  43.                  been created.

  45.              10. Close the WinCheck Converter.
  46.              11. Run WinCheck.
  47.              12. Specify a new account.  For example, we will use Y91.
  48.              13. Specify a Checking/Cash account, Checking/Savings
  49.                  account, or a Credit Card account.

  51.              14. IMPORTANT:  Change the Starting Date field in the
  52.                  Account Info dialog to 1/91  (for this example).
  53.              15. Fill in the description of the account with anything
  54.                  you want.
  55.              16. Fill in the starting balances.
  56.              17. Press the OK button.
  57.              18. Define a checkbook or press OK.

  59.              19. Note that your starting balances are for the start of
  60.                  the year.  Now it is time to import in the data.
  61.              20. Choose Run/Edit WinCheck Command File from the Acct
  62.                  menu.
  63.              21. Use the dialog to locate Q34CONV.WCB .
  64.                  This conversion process will take a long time.
  65.                  Typical conversion times run from 1 minute to 30
  66.                  minutes, depending on the speed of your computer and
  67.                  the amount of data to convert.  Make sure you have
  68.                  the time available.

  70.              22. Press the Run button.
  71.              23. Once the conversion is complete, the register will
  72.                  display your converted data and your current balance.

  74.           Conversion Issues:
  75.  
  76.            Quicken uses Categories:Subcategories/Classes.  WinCheck
  77.            uses only Categories and Subcategories.  WinCheck will
  78.            combine the Class and category into one category.  For
  79.            example, "Utility:Electric/PERSONAL" will be changed to
  80.            "PERSONAL/Utility:Electric".  "PERSONAL/Utility" is the
  81.            category, and "Electric" is the subcategory.

  83.            Quicken's export files do not specify the type of
  84.            transaction.  WinCheck will do the best that it can to
  85.            convert your transactions to the same type (i.e. Checks to
  86.            Checks).  If WinCheck finds a transaction of an unknown
  87.            type,  it will create a Misc transaction.  This will
  88.            accurately track your dollar amount.
  89.            WinCheck will not convert investments from Quicken 4.0.
